Sexuality and various sexual practices have always been one of the first human rights effected by regulations of authoritarian bodies such as governments, Religions have, Culture.
Some favour monogamy, some polygamy. Some leave room for polyamory and some are a combination of different practices. That goes not only to the practices, culture, law, etc. but also to gender roles.
