Theoretical Foundations for Quantum Computing: online class

Details

Chris Sutherland, PhD physics, is offering an 8-week Theoretical Foundations for Quantum Computing class online. If a few members of SQCM sign-up, we can organize an online or IRL study group, if you like, and if you let me know! His course announcement is below, in which he describes the target audience.

Hey guys,

So, we're gonna do the course! I am very very excited for it, It's going to be a blast.

You are going to learn quantum teleportation, a fundamental protocol in quantum computing. And when I say learn, I mean learn. You will be able to reproduce and understand every last mathematical detail of this incredibly interesting physical and computational phenomena.

Every scientist who works in quantum computing understands this protocol like the back of their hand. However, there is a lot of background knowledge needed to get there. Especially if you've never taken a good linear algebra or complex analysis course.

Remember, this is a live online course. The stand alone platform is still in development.

I want to make sure I give the best possible experience to everyone involved, so there will only be 30 spots available.

There's roughly 400 of you on this email list, so unfortunately, not everyone will be able to get in. But that's OK! I'm only really looking for those seriously interested in learning at the moment, as you guys will be playing an integral role as I continue to develop the stand alone platform.

The course

The course is 8 weeks long.

At a high level, the course features:

  • Weekly video calls where I explain the content from that week.
  • A discord community where students can discuss concepts.
  • Weekly 30 min 1-1 calls with me to discuss progress.
  • Well over 100 hand-crafted problems for you to solve.

More details will be available to the selected cohort of students, but a rough list of topics for the course include:

  • Complex NumbersVectors and Vectorspaces
  • Matrices
  • The Postulates of Quantum Theory
  • Basic Quantum Circuits
  • Quantum Entanglement
  • Quantum Teleportation

Is this course right for you?

This is right for you if:

  • You are willing to invest at least 7-8 hours a week into this course (learning the content, doing the problems) over the next two months.
  • You would enjoy an intense, immersive environment where you can learn at a fast pace and interact with like-minded peers.

Note:

This is not a physics course. This course takes a more math oriented approach, appropriate for those looking to grasp the mathematical fundamentals for understanding the details of quantum teleportation, which is essential for delving deeper into quantum computing.

This is aimed at those with a (potentially incomplete) high school or early university/college level of math knowledge. For those who are already later staged physics/math students or graduate students, this course may not be appropriate for you.

Timing

The course is 8 weeks long.

It starts on May 2nd and ends on June 27th .

Pricing
The price of the course is $200 USD, open only to **30 people.**If you’re not satisfied, you have a 14-day money back guarantee for a full refund.

About Me

By the way, I think most of you here know me already, but in case you'd like to chat before signing up to learn more about me or the course, feel free to book a call with me down below :). The short of it is I'm a former college physics lecturer, fed up with the traditional education systems, venturing out on my own to build a better educational future for all.

| (P.S. thanks to Adithya over at Aleph 0, whose email structure for his course heavily inspired this one. He is currently offering a course on elliptic curves that I've heard is getting very positive reviews. His Youtube videos explaining abstract math concepts are incredible and I can't recommend them enough). |
