Please join us Wednesday, November 15th @ ChefSteps HQ in historic Pike Place Market for a night of all things React Native. Our team of world-class development chefs will be cooking, and you’ve never encountered food like this at a meetup before—trust us. Plus we’ll serve handcrafted cocktails and local beers. Doors open at 6 PM, and we’ve scheduled two flash talks from ChefSteps mobile engineers from 7–7:30. Beyond that, the only agenda is to have a good time and learn from each other.

Atish Kalyan: Declarative React Native Animations

Abstract: In React Native, animations have largely been treated as second-class citizens. The introduction of the Animated API in October 2015—and, at long last, native drivers for animations in February 2017—significantly improved the situation, but still left much to be desired in terms of code readability. In this talk, we'll introduce a new library, developed by ChefSteps, for implementing truly declarative, performant interactions and animations in React Native.

Ryan Miller: React Native & Flexbox

Abstract: Though React Native's flexbox implementation is, by and large, equivalent to flexbox implementations in major browsers, there are some serious gotchas of which to be aware. We'll take you you through some of the most mind-bending, and reveal areas where React Native's flexbox implementation breaks from the norm entirely!
