FIASCO: Camp Death
Details
FIASCO is an award-winning storytelling game inspired by cinematic tales of small-time capers gone disastrously wrong. You’ll tell a story about ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control! Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, you just might end up back where you started. You probably won’t be lucky.
This month's playset: CAMP DEATH by James Gabrielsen
So, here's the deal. Camp Clearwater's been abandoned since some grisly, "unsolved" murders 20 years ago. Or whatever. The new owner probably made that up as some creepy story to tell the campers and scare up business. What I know is that we've got a couple weeks to get this place set up before any campers arrive, and most of the hard work is already done. We've got enough booze, pot, and distance from authority to make this the greatest summer ever. What could go wrong?
Inspired by classic slasher films like Friday the 13th, this playset features a "stunt dice" hack for stacking up the bodies and special rules for revealing the killer. Be sure to bring your hockey mask!
A few important notes:
- This is a one-shot RPG session, intended to give gamers a chance to learn the basics of a new system and/or experience a genre they might not otherwise have an opportunity to try. The game is easy to learn and the host is happy to teach; everything needed to play will be provided.
- Please note the date and time listed in the event description here on Meetup; there is a known issue with the site exporting the wrong information to external calendars (specifically Google Calendar). Unfortunately there's nothing group or event organizers can do; it's a Meetup-side problem. The date/time listed here on this page is the correct one.
- At least three people are necessary to play FIASCO. If fewer than three people, including the host, sign up before RSVPs close (48 hours before the start of the session), the event will be canceled.
- No-showing/ghosting isn't just rude, for an event like this with a limited number of spaces available it can sometimes make it impossible for others to play a game at all. No-shows -- and canceling after the scheduled start time is still no-showing -- will be marked as such and automatically sent to the "back of the line" (waitlisted) for all future events they sign up for. A second no-show will result in removal from the Meetup group altogether. It's not "the Seattle Freeze," it's just inconsiderate.
- FIASCO is an... R-rated game. It may (and likely will) include such unsavory content as naughty language, sex, drugs, rock and roll, lying, cheating, stealing, violence, handing out something lame like dental floss or pennies to trick-or-treaters, and generally just being a disreputable Coen Brothers movie character of a person. Not graphic depictions of any of that (although to be fair, this one's a slasher movie sendup, so maybe), but you may not want to bring the kids.
