This meetup focuses on Scalability and technologies to enable handling large amounts of data: Hadoop, HBase, distributed NoSQL databases, and more!

There's not only a focus on technology, but also everything surrounding it including operations, management, business use cases, and more.

We've had great success in the past, and are growing quickly! Previous guests were from Twitter, LinkedIn, Amazon, Cloudant, Microsoft, 10gen/MongoDB, and more.

This month's guests:

J. Andrew Rogers, Founder & CTO at SpaceCurve

SpaceCurve lives to suss out massive amounts of location, social, sensor, and timeline data. Andrew's talk will dive into how SpaceCurve's new big data platform effortlessly removes the barriers to real-time analysis of enormous, multi-dimensional datasets inherent in current technologies.

Robert Roland, Lead Software Engineer at Simply Measured

Simply Measured originally built out its entire data storage platform on MongoDB. Things seemed rosy for a while, but they were crumbling at the edges. Consistency was an issue, and Sharding for each customer’s data source didn’t work well as the size of data for a customer grew. It became clear that it was time to look at other technologies, and we ultimately chose HBase to rebuild our primary datastore. This talk will cover why we chose HBase, how we integrated HBase with the least amount of downtime and impact to our customers, the financial costs of this migration, and where we’re going in the future with it.

Our format is flexible: We usually have speakers who talk for ~30 minutes each and then do Q+A, plus discussion.

There'll be beer afterwards, of course!
