Unique Molecular Identifiers (UMIs) are a type of molecular barcode that add great power when hunting for ultra-rare mutations or identifying copy number variations. Dr. Jean Jasinski, Agilent's Field Applications Specialist in the Diagnostics and Genomics Group, will review some of the nuances of using UMIs and how correcting PCR and sequencing errors and deduplicating amplification artifacts can affect sequencing metrics and analysis.
