I’ve been wanting to read Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens for a long time, and this feels like a good time to finally do it as a group.

This was the “it book” for a while, so chances are a lot of people here have already read it — or at least meant to.

If you’ve read it before, great. If this is your first time, also great.

About the book:
For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have followed Barkley Cove, a small town on the North Carolina coast. When Chase Andrews is found dead in 1969, suspicion immediately falls on Kya Clark. But Kya isn’t who the town believes her to be. She’s grown up largely alone in the marsh, surviving on her own, finding meaning in nature, and slowly opening herself to love — until everything changes.

This book was everywhere for a reason. It has hundreds of thousands of reviews and a very high rating on Amazon, spent a long time on bestseller lists, and was later adapted into a movie. Whether you loved it, hated it, or felt somewhere in between, there’s plenty to talk about.

This will be a low-pressure discussion. You don’t need to have finished the book to come — even if you read it years ago, are halfway through, or mostly want to listen, that’s fine. New people are welcome.

RSVP note (please read):
I’m no longer tolerating last-minute cancellations without a good reason. I hate to be that organizer, but for book club you should generally know a few days ahead of time whether you’ll be able to attend. I do have to plan and coordinate reservation counts with the restaurant, so please only RSVP if you’re reasonably sure you can make it, and update your RSVP in advance if your plans change.
