Carkeek Park and low tide beach walk
Details
Today, we will take advantage of the low tide and hike along the beach from Carkeek Park to Golden Gardens Park.
We will begin the hike at the east entrance of Carkeek Park, where we will take the main trail and south ridge trail down to the beach, then walk along the beach to Golden Gardens. Depending on our mood and the weather, we can end the hike at Golden Gardens, or walk another 2 1/2 miles along the coastline to Ballard. This is a good camera hike, with lots of views of Puget Sound along along the way.
Our starting point will be at the southeast entrance to Carkeek Park, located at 600 NW 100th Pl, Seattle, WA. Direct service to the trailhead is available on the RapidRide D from Ballard or on the 28 from Fremont.
We will have an optional pre-hike lunch at the Fremont PCC before boarding the 28. The PCC is located right in the center of Fremont at 600 N 34th St.
If you are new to the area, finding Carkeek Park can be confusing for the first time, so boarding the 28 with us from Fremont is highly recommended.
Schedule:
Optional pre-hike lunch at Fremont PCC - 12:00 PM
Board bus #28 to Carkeek Park - 12:24 PM
Arrive Carkeek Park and begin hike - 12:45 PM (*)
Arrive Carkeek Park beach - 1:30 PM
Arrive Golden Gardens - 2:00 PM
Arrive Ballard locks (if we decide to do the extension) - 3:00 PM
(*) If traveling to Carkeek Park by some means other than the 28, please be on time. I would like to begin the hike as soon as possible, once the 28 arrives at the trailhead.
