First off, announcements -

Huge thanks to Wizards of the Coast for hosting the event and providing food and refreshments! They're looking for a wide variety of passionate potential Wizards for a new top secret project. To see what it's like to work there, and sign up for future job alerts, head to http://company.wizards.com/content/life-wizards .

Seattle VR Hackathon - We've mentioned this for previous hackathons; the awesome folks at Seattle AR/VR are doing another event in April - We cannot recommend these events enough. Hackathons are an amazing opportunity to develop with new technology and awesome people.

Seattle Khronos Group - in the past few weeks, Tim Reha from CNDYFACTORY has worked on establishing a local Khronos working group. Khronos is the organization responsible for OpenGL and it's replacement, Vulkan. Vulkan and their new AR/VR technology, OpenXR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenXR), will probably run a large portion of future content; it's exciting to have a local working group here in Seattle!

Seattle VR Co-op - Nima Zeighami and a ton of other awesome people have begun a local Co-op to help build the AR/VR community and provide hardware, software and developer expertise to underserved communities. They're working on something really awesome, take a look at https://www.vrcoop.org/ and join and support their efforts!

Now onto the main event for April -

We have a guest speaker from OSSO VR to discuss their work with orthopedic surgical training and simulation, all built in Unity3d.

Equal parts design ingenuity and technical creativity, physical interaction design is one of the most challenging aspects of VR development. Adrienne Hunter and Nick Abel from Osso VR will share what it's like to create complex physical interactions in a VR surgical training environment using Unity3d, share how and where to start with your own interactions, and point out hazards/challenges that come up throughout the development process.

Nick Abel is a software engineer and Unity developer specializing in VR interaction systems. At Seattle based Tomorrow Today Labs, he co-developed NewtonVR, a physics driven interaction framework for Unity. He brings that expertise to OssoVR, building systems to drive authentic and immersive surgical training simulations.

Keep track of their project at http://ossovr.com/

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 20th!
