Details

There is no October meeting but I wanted to let everyone know about a super cool event that I am running called Seattle GiveCamp. In it's 4th year now, the idea is quite simple: have non-profits propose any software need that can be accomplished in a weekend and then bring together a bunch of software professionals to work on the solutions to satisfy these needs.

Sign up at http://seattlegivecamp.org

The fun begins on Friday, Oct 11 at 6PM and goes until Sunday, Oct 13 at 6PM. Staying overnight Friday and Saturday is optional; most people go home. So far, we have 30+ proposals and about 70 volunteers but we need more volunteers.

We provide the room, wireless, lots of food and drink. Everyone gets a t-shirt and various goodies as well.

Most of the apps are web-based. Currently, we are in need of developers, designers, project managers, and other software professionals with experience in ASP.NET, PHP, Plone, WordPress, SalesForce, CSS, jQuery, etc.

We are looking for people of all skill levels. Experts, newbies, students, and anyone in between. Come to lead, to follow, to watch, to network, to do. All we ask is that you come and be willing to help.

The commitment is for only one weekend. That's it. No follow-up after Sunday. Just come to GiveCamp Friday after work and by Sunday your commitment is done. Over. Finished. But the karma you gain may just last a lifetime.
