Re: [webdesign-390] Seattle Web Design Meetup--I need your thoughts about our group.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for doing this.

I'll just toss in my two cents below.

I have just started as the coordinator of Seattle Web Design Meetup.  Please consider the following and let me know your opinions:

Where would you like to meet?  One fixed downtown or Eastside location? Move locations as appropriate? Other?  Do you have a specific recommendation?  Are drinkables important to you, coffee, beer?

Those are my two drinks of choice just depending on the time of day. I like coffeeshops for their informality and noise level, but it can be hard to find ones with large reservable spaces.  However, I do think that both indoor Vivaces, some of the Uptown Espresso's (belltown and south lake union), Street Bean Espresso (belltown), and Cortona Cafe (central district, only reservable sometimes after hours) all have spaces. If meetings ere on the eastside, I wouldn't be able to come, but if that's where the majority of interest is, then by all means, meet there.

Do you want a formal presentation with discussion to follow or just open discussion of current projects and work-in-progress or an opportunity to ask questions?  What are three topics that would be of interest to you if someone could make a presentation?  Are you willing to be a presenter of some topic(s) related to web design?

I think a mix of formal presentations and discussions could be good. I will say that this group has certainly lacked FOCUS which formal presentations could give it. I also think an open and safe (read: if there are jerks in the group, this will fail) space for brief (5-7min) critiques of projects would be awesome.

For topics, I could imagine good topics on CSS3, HTML5, jQuery, Usability/Accessibility, Browser Support, Design Trends, and more. I'm also a WordPress guy, so I like talking about that but have the WordPress meetup to do that in.

For now, I'm probably overloaded to present although I could probably throw together a presentation on WordPress if there was interest.

Do you want to join me as an assistant coordinator?  What role would you like?
