Talk title: Machine learning for cloud formation in climate models
Speaker: Yakelyn Ramos Jauregui
Speaker Bio:
I am a graduate student in the department of Atmospheric Science at UW, graduating in the spring of 2023. My Ph.D. research seeks to improve understanding of the across-scales air-sea interaction processes over the tropical Pacific. More generally, I am interested in the physical mechanism by which consecutive short-term ocean-atmosphere interactions over the equatorial Pacific can trigger El Niño Southern Oscillation. As a graduate student, I work alongside a diverse range of scientists from different backgrounds, which provides me with valuable learning experiences. In our department’s mentoring program, I am committed to contributing to climate education, outreach efforts, and mental health awareness. Outside school, I am trying to reinforce the Latinx/Hispanic representation in Earth and Space Sciences through outreach, mentorship, and networking.
