Easy Hike for Dogs: Barclay Lake (Hwy 2)

Details

PLEASAE SEE INFO ABOUT ROAD CONDITIONS AND PARKING PASS BELOW.

Barclay Lake is one of the most beautiful, easier hikes in the area. It climbs only 225 feet in 2.2 miles. It winds through mossy forest, crosses a river on a long bridge (make sure your dog is comfortable with this or that you can carry them) and ends at a lake at the foot of impressive Baring Peak. The whole hike, including photo breaks and a snack break at the lake, takes around 3 1/2 hours.

DIRECTIONS: From Everett, head 40 miles east on US 2 to the settlement of Baring. Near milepost 41 and across from a convenience store, turn left (north) onto 635th Place NE. Cross railroad tracks and after 0.3 mile come to a junction. Turn left onto Forest Road 6034 and proceed for 4.2 miles to the trailhead.

The road has good-sized potholes, especially in the first 0.5 to 1 miles. With good care and caution, they should be negotiable by a regular sedan.

Parking Pass Required! A NW Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead. A pass is $30 annually or $10 for a one-day pass. If you have an America the Beautiul Pass, it's will work the same as a Forest Service pass.

Weather note: There is some rain in the forcast for this day but at the time I scheduled this event, we will be hiking during a break in the rain. Expect the trail may be damp and muddy though.
