Plan:
Let's head over to Frenchman Coulee at Vantage and explore beginner level climbing skills, including:
- Top Rope
- Rappelling
- Anchors
- Safety
- Plus some lead climbing on easy lower grade routes
We will camp in the area both nights. Conditions permitting, we will scramble in the area.
You can join the activity for one day or both days. If you plan on camping, bring all the camping gear, food, and water for the duration. You can also car camp if you drive.
About the area:
The Columnar basalt creates a great balance of sport and trad routes. The routes range from low level 5.4 to advanced 5.12+
Solid foothold, handhold, and rock consistency with options for easy grade walls and short top roping and climbing.

- Layers in case of wind or any passing showers

- Firewood, lots of it!
If we get there in time, we can gather by The Feathers.
Carpooling:
Will be coordinated at the Park and Ride before we leave to the trailhead. 2-4 persons per vehicle. Passengers should bring cash or Zelle for carpooling cost.
We will be in the open lot east of the parking garage building under the overpass.
Getting There:
Head East on I-90 from Seattle. Follow this over the Columbia River past Vantage, WA.
Go up the hill and take exit 143 (the second exit after the river). At the bottom of the exit ramp take a left onto Silica road. Follow this road under the highway and take the first left onto Vantage road. Go down the canyon 1.4 miles. You will see parking on the left.
