Weekly Conditioning Hikes-
These hikes are fast paced and intended to help condition during winter months. I recommend this for members trying to train for the major mountains in the area. Such as Baker, Adams, MSH, Rainier, etc.

Whenever possible, and depending on group size and dynamic, we might use the interval method when we meet at Tolt Pipeline Trail.

If you want to train with a heavy load, you can bring your larger pack and load it with water. Your mountaineering boots and hiking poles recommended to help simulate the same experience for larger mountains.

About Cable Line Trail:
At about 3.2 miles RT and over 2000' elevation gain, the average slope is around 25%, which is cheap & steep!
This is not a maintained trail, and somewhat tricky in spots. Some areas are simply a trench that are harder to climb, especially when wet and icy. The route has no switchbacks, and the trail just goes up with only a couple short flat areas.
We will encounter lots of lose rock, tree roots and other minor challenges. That's what I call a "scramble" hike.

The plan is to hike it at least once. Conditions and time permitting, we could do it twice. We can decide that as a team. If it is too muddy, we might come down the West Tiger 3 trail.

Weather:
The forecast is looking solid for Wednesday with well above average temps and light wind.

Getting There:
Take Exit 20 (High Point) off of I-90, a few miles east of Issaquah and turn south on 270th Ave SE. Just a few yards south of I-90, turn right onto SE 79th St and continue west. The pavement ends in 0.4 miles where a gate is open each day from dawn until dusk. If you arrive before dawn or plan to come out after dusk, park on the road east of the gate.
A couple large boulders signaling the start of the trail.

Parking:
Let's meet at the end of the road before you get to the upper parking lot. This is just in front of the Cable Line trailhead.
Do not park at the upper lot. They close the gate early during winter months.

----------------------Conditioning Hikes------------
Through some of the shorter and darker winter month days, I will be planning weekly or bi-monthly conditioning hikes whenever possible. These will be local hikes focused on Tiger Mountain trails in Issaquah, or Tolt Pipeline Trail in Woodinville.

All the hikes will start in late afternoon or early evening.

My preferred trail on Tiger is Cable Line, which is about 4 miles RT and 2000 feet gain. Unless it is heavy rain where the trail pretty much becomes a creek. In that case, we could opt for West Tiger 3 or a closer spot such as Tolt Pipeline in Woodinville.

Headlamps required.

Be prepared for the conditions. Light rain gear and windbreaker recommended, unless you like to suffer.

Unless time and traffic conditions allow, I will not be setting a carpooling spot for these events. Just meet me at the TH.
If you live nearby in the Redmond/Kirkland/Woodinville areas, and you need to carpool, I might be able to help coordinate. Just message me in advance.
