Scramble to the Mount Si Haystack (Hard)

Let’s head up Mount Si for a fun scramble to the Haystack (true summit)!
This is a rewarding hike for experienced hikers who are comfortable with steep terrain and hands on scrambling. We’ll move at a steady to fast pace.
Plan:
- Meet at Eastgate Park and Ride at 9:00
- Coordinate carpooling and leave to trailhead at 9:10
- Boots on the trail around 9:45
- Back at Eastage P & R around 3:00
Route Details:
- Distance: about 7.4 miles out-and-back from Old Climbing Trail**(**Little Si trailhead)
- Elevation Gain: 3500~3,800 ft
- High Point: about 4,180 ft (Haystack summit)
- Difficulty: Hard hike + Class 3 scramble
The Haystack scramble involves:
- Steep rock and dirt
- Exposure in spots
- Using hands for balance and movement
What to Bring:
- Sturdy hiking boots or approach shoes recommended.
- Trekking poles
- Plenty of water (2–3L)
- Snacks
- Layers (wind breaker)
- Gloves (optional but helpful for scrambling)
- Sun protection
- Helmet
- Ten Essentials
- Great attitude
