Climbing in Squamish (Memorial Weekend)
Details
Join us for a 3 day climbing trip to Squamish over Memorial Day weekend. We will climb the best crags, minimizing driving time by camping directly at Check Canyon. This trip is beginner-friendly.
Itinerary
- Friday: departure and basecamp
- 4:00 pm: meet at Ash Way Park & Ride.
- Evening: Cross the border, drive the Sea-to-Sky highway, and arrive at the Chek Canyon Recreation Site. Set up camp.
- Saturday
- Plan: zero-driving climbing in Chek Canyon. Possible crags include Foundation Wall and Electric Av.
- Sunday
- Plan: A quick drive to Area 44. We will spend the day climbing and enjoying the spectacular views of the Tantalus Range. Group dinner in Squamish.
- Monday
- Plan: break down camp early and pack the vehicles. Drive south to Murrin Park for a half-day climbing session right off the highway. Wrap up climbing by early afternoon and hit the road back to Seattle.
Logistics
- Accommodations: camping at Chek Canyon is rustic and free (pit toilets, no running water). Bring sufficient drinking water.
- Group gear: ropes, quickdraws, stick clips, and anchor-building materials.
- Personal gear: helmet (mandatory for all climbers and belayers), harness, PAS, and a valid passport.
