I attempted this last year, but want to plan a little more time for it this time around. We will plan to car camp on Friday so we can get an earlier start on Saturday. These are two inspiring peaks nestled deep within the Alpine Lakes area (but without having to win a permit lottery). They are also on the Smoot 100 list for those that follow.

We will be climbing the steep and varied terrain on snow, and loose rock with possible exposure. In order to be considered for this trip, you MUST be comfortable with climbing on steep, loose, exposed, and terrain including snow and rock up to class 4. We will plan to go at a pace of about 2 to 3 miles per hour on trail (1 to 2 miles per hour off trail) and 1000 to 2000 feet per hour with overnight packs. Good situational awareness and efficient preparation skills are also important for these trips, so we don't keep the group waiting on one person. Please join only if you are prepared to go at the group pace and have the necessary skills for this trip. If you want to join, please RSVP and answer the questions when prompted. You will be put on the waitlist initially and will add people that seem like good additions to the meetup.

The Plan (subject to change):

Friday:
6:15 PM Meet at Park and Ride. Arrange carpools and drive to the trailhead. We should be on the road by 6:30 PM. If you are delayed by traffic or something else, please let me know.
I can meet you earlier at Mercer Island Park and Ride if you're coming via light rail. We can stop along the way for bathroom breaks. It's about a 2 hour drive to the trailhead.

8:30 to 9 PM We should arrive at the trailhead or wherever we plan to camp for the night.

If you intend to meet us at the trailhead in the morning (instead of car camping) please communicate that ahead of time so we can coordinate plan.

Saturday:
Time TBD: start our hike in. We should arrive at Glacier Lake by late morning or early afternoon where we stop and take a longer break.
We will still have an off trail bouldery section to contend with so we'll need to budget at least 1.5 to 2 hours for that.

Early to mid afternoon: We can cache gear at the pass above Chikamin lake Climb Chikamin Mountain. We should plan at least for about 3 hours for this side trip.
We should arrive at camp at Chikamin Lake by early evening.

Sunday:
Time t.b.d. climb Lemah Mountain. Plan to spend around a half hour at the summit. This should take most of the morning.

Early afternoon: arrive back at camp. Break camp and hike out.

Break camp and hike out. We can take a break at Glacier Lake and go for a swim, time and interest permitting. We should arrive back at the trailhead by early evening.

Please be prepared to stick to the schedule so we can accomplish our goals for the meetup

We can stop for food on the way home if there is time and interest.

What to bring:
Backpack, clothing layers (expect rain, snow, and wind), hiking or mountaineering boots, crampons, helmet, hiking poles, ice ax, harness and glacier gear (yes this is a glacier, and there could be crevasses) navigation: map, compass, and GPS if you have it, emergency bivy, food and water for the overnight trip (2-3 liters minimum), sun protection, headlamp, sit pad, 10 essentials not already mentioned, and overnight camping gear. An Inreach or emergency signal device is highly encouraged. Ursack or bear resistant container is recommended for food storage. You can bring a swimsuit and towel if you want to swim in the lakes along the way.

Everyone should bring car camping gear for the night before including a tent if you are a passenger. Bring something to eat for dinner Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning, as we won't likely be stopping to eat along the way.

Drivers should have directions and NW forest pass or equivalent. Bring money for the permit costs as well.
Everyone bring good cheer!

EXPECT TO BE HIKING IN WARM TEMPERATURES SO DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS WITH ELECTROLYTES. WE CAN TAKE SHADE AND WATER BREAKS WHEN NECESSARY, BUT BE PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT RELATED ILLNESS. PLEASE READ: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/heatrelated-illnesses-heat-cramps-heat-exhaustion-heat-stroke
