**Bio:** John has a PhD in Applied Math from Cal Berkeley in 1969 and then worked at Boeing on real-time math algorithms, like Guidance, Navigation and Control for the IUS spacecraft booster. He came across intriguing science articles on precision navigation by birds, butterflies, turtles and whales during migration, apparently by the stars and earth's magnetic field, beyond human technology. The physiological feats were also surprising: the birds migrated vast distances nonstop. He retired in 2000 and came across a science technology book on Biomimicry - Innovation Inspired by Nature by Janine M. Benyus in 2002, about technology applications learned from studying nature life. In 2007-9 he taught many science classes on Biomimicry and other subjects for U. Washington, Osher extension. Since then, he has continued his interest in nature's useful capabilities by enjoying lectures, articles and books and UW classes. But recently, he was inspired to develop a new talk on Biomimicry by personally studying the gecko lizard in Maui and reading the book: Nature's Wild Ideas - How the Natural World is Inspiring Scientific Innovation by Kristy Hamilton in 2022.
