The future of WordPress, with local web developer Dean Wenick: When Matt Mullenweg last spoke to the Seattle WordPress meetup, the one thing he shared about his vision of the future was that developers will be interacting with a client-side API. This approach will allow us to leverage the powerful WordPress backend to write single page web apps that respond very quickly to the user.

The future is now right around the corner. The JSON REST API (https://wordpress.org/plugins/json-rest-api/) is expected to be merged into Core in the next 6-9 months.

Get ahead of the curve with this demo as Dean shows us how to build a theme using the new API. We will use the AngularJS (https://angularjs.org) framework for this project. The same principles would apply in any other front-end framework, such as Backbone (http://backbonejs.org/), Ember (http://emberjs.com/), or Knockout (http://knockoutjs.com/).
