Trail Hike at Tuckahoe State Park & Adkins Arboretum

Details

This is a nice recreational hike through forested woodlands and streams to enjoy the foliage at Tuckahoe State Park & Adkins Arboretum. Park details below:

MEET AT LAKE TUCKAHOE PAVILLION LOT

We'll meet at the parking lot for the picnic area next to Lake Tuckahoe Pavillion on Crouse Mill Rd. Restrooms are available nearby. From the picnic area, it's just a short walk to the Tuckahoe Valley trailhead that leads to Adkins Arboretum. See the attached Meetup map for exact location details.

HIKING PLAN

This hike follows the Tuckahoe Valley trail that tracks Tuckahoe Creek before merging onto several different nature trails in Adkins Arboretum.

The Tuckahoe Valley trail runs nine miles to Hillsboro, but we'll hike only the first few miles starting at the lake. That will lead us into Adkins Arboretum which has several additional side trails focusing on the flora and fauna native to Tuckahoe Creek. After exploring the trails in the arboretum, we'll return to Lake Tuckahoe and the parking area the same way we came.

Trail conditions are generally excellent on flat well-marked natural forest paths, but they do require hikers to handle them for three hours. Please respect any physical limitations you have that might prevent you from keeping up with our group.

We'll hike at a relaxed pace to sightsee along the way. Total distance will be about five miles. Wear comfortable hiking shoes that can handle the woods, tree roots, and any rough trail conditions we encounter.

AFTERWARD AT DOC'S IN CENTREVILLE

After our paddle, we can drive 11 miles to Doc's Riverside Grille in Centreville for food and refreshments. Doc's has a relaxed vibe, full menu, and a nice outdoor patio area that our SHR group has enjoyed many times. Details below:

FINAL DETAILS

We'll need decent hiking weather for this event. A little rain won't stop us and can add to the adventure, but we won't hike in miserable conditions. I'll post a notice here and send out an email by 9:00 am if we need to change plans or cancel.

I hope to see you there!
