Kayaking Up Morgan Creek

This paddle is one of our Chestertown Tea Party weekend events that anyone can attend and enjoy. However, you will need to bring your own kayak, life vest, and gear. Rentals are available at Chester River Outfitters in town.

Paddling Up Morgan Creek
We'll launch at Morgnec Landing which is a parking area beside Morgnec Rd. just after you cross the steel highway bridge over Morgan Creek. It's about one mile from Chestertown on Rt. 291 (see exact location on the meetup map above). There is plenty of parking, but no launch ramp. We need to put our kayaks into Morgan Creek at the bottom of a short embankment covered with small rocks. Low tide is at 5:56 pm, so be prepared to get your feet wet climbing down the embankment to get into your boat.
We'll probably be on the water for 3-4 hours paddling up this quiet creek to enjoy the evening light and many birds fluttering through the marsh to their nesting places. I saw a bald eagle there last August. Bring drinking water and a wide brim hat. It's also a nice place to sip some wine on calm waters.
Morgan Creek (shown below) is a pretty and peaceful place to kayak. It's a protected natural area that winds for 8 miles through marshland past woods and occasional houses. This paddle is suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers who are comfortable being in a kayak.

Directions
Take MD Rt. 291 (Morgnec Rd.) east about one mile from Chestertown until you cross a steel bridge over Morgan Creek. Just past the bridge, there is a large dirt parking area by the side of the highway. Turn into the lot and park there. Check the Google meetup map above for the exact location.
