Meet the Robots

Details

Are you fascinated, experienced or simply curious about robotics and human-robot interaction, then you should join this event!

Meet the Robots is a series of events created to discover the world of robotics and explore how they could support our society, i.e. how could robots be used to assist the elderly, people with disabilities, kids with learning difficulties?

We shall kickstart the series with an "Ideathon" to generate ideas around the use of (humanoid) robots and bring these ideas to life at the "Hackathon for Humanoids" in June (exact date TBC).

As the world of robotics is very broad, we have decided to focus this event on the social and human side of robotics, think of Humanoid Robots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanoid_robot) and Social Robots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_robot), such as NAO (https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=183&v=nNbj2G3GmAo) and Robokind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSkfspliSrk) (see videos below).

Ideathon for Robots

First of all, you don't need to be a coder, programmer, hacker or techie to join this ideathon. We are looking for people who have the creativity, affinity, imagination and general vision to come up with scenarios that could make people’s lives easier, more meaningful and supportive through the use of robotics.

In the first part of the series we will provide an introduction on robotics, artificial intelligence and touch upon the ethical side of these technologies. We shall provide examples on how robots could be used to tackle challenges such as ageing, autism and independent living.

Brainstorm

We shall host a brainstorm session to generate and validate ideas around the use of robots for the empowerment of our society. During this session we shall map some of the brain activity through the use of brain-computer interfaces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain%E2%80%93computer_interface) (BCIs).

Ideas will be pitches to a select group of industry experts and the best ideas that come out of this ideathon will enter the Hackathon for Humanoids (at a date TBC).
