About us
Hi there and Welcome to SECOND WIND HIKING AND GETAWAYS
I am not an organizer who writes a colorful description of What's Out There? I would prefer we traveled together and make our own scrapbook of memories. You've looked at enough books and magazines and seen photos of: sand colored deserts, deep canyons, painted mesas, wildflowers, pine, conifer and aspen trees so how about gettin' up and personal with our surroundings, take a journal and take a lot of photos!
ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR SUGGESTIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.
This is a group which usually hikes and ventures anywhere in or out of Colorado, on the weekends, weekdays, mornings, evenings, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn any time that is available for hiking and whatever we decide to do afterwards.
There is no need to feel you need to play catch up or slow down. The group is intended to hike at your own pace.
Our hikes are an array of distances, skill levels, elevations and everything in between.
The GETAWAYS will include: Colorado Historical Events, Camping, Roadtrips, Mountain Music and Art Festivals, Rafting, Fishing, Mountain Town Cemetaries and every other Outdoor expeditions you would like to do.
**Thanks again for joining *SECOND WIND HIKING AND GETAWAYS! ***
Take it Easy and I’ll see you all soon!
Take Care

When Meetup members sign up and accept the Meetup Terms of Service, they are agreeing to the Release found in Section 6.2: This Release basically states that members attend events at their own risk, and release The Organizers, the assistant organizers and Meetup from any claims that may result in injury or death
Purchasing a Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) Card. Colorado residents and visitors are well served by dedicated volunteer search and rescue teams, but mission costs are often in the thousands of dollars. By purchasing a CORSAR card you are contributing to the Search and Rescue Fund, which will reimburse these teams for costs incurred in your search and rescue. Funds remaining at the end of the year are used to help pay for training and equipment for these teams. Anyone with a current hunting/fishing license, or boat, snowmobile, ATV registration is already covered by the fund. The card is not insurance and does not reimburse individuals nor does it pay for medical transport.

HIKE AND DINE IN GENESEE PARK
Genessee Mountain Trail Head, 26629 Genesee Ln, Golden, CO, USHi Everyone,
The Genesee Mountain Trail Outer Loop is an awesome easy/moderate 3.6-4 mile hike with an elevation gain of 462 ft.
We’ll make our way along the Bison enclosure for the first part of the trail. This route starts on a wide dirt road then changes to single track for the second half. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as parts of the trail are exposed. We’ll hike this trail clockwise and you’ll see why when we get there.Directions: Depending on which way you’re driving on I-70 take the 256 exit, cross over the highway then take Genesee Village Rd and Genesee Trail Rd to S. Genesee Mountain Rd then you’ll come to a parking lot. This parking lot is basically on the side of the road. There are restrooms also. I’ll make sure to include a pinpoint map.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------After the hike I’d like to head over to Guidos for an after hike get together https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g33447-d386765-Reviews-Guido_s_Pizza_Genesee-Golden_Colorado.html
We should be at Guidos by 1:15 PMThe address is included on their website and isn’t far away from where we’ll be hiking. In fact I’m not sure if I ever got back onto the highway.
They sell pizza by the slice so you’re able to order different tastes. But the gyro I had to eat was the best gyro I have ever tasted next to the one I had in Winslow, Arizona.
If I’ve missed information you need please leave your question in the comment section.
I hope to see you there,
Have a safe drive!Don

HIKE AND DINE: CRYSTAL MILL AND CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP: MARBLE, CO/
MARBLE, CO, Marble, CO, USHi Everyone,
HAPPY 150TH BIRTHDAY COLORADO!!!
Folks, We haven't been to the Crystal since 2017. I have read there have been changes made where vehicle travel has been scraped making this a hike. However this will be one of the best scrapbook of memories you will ever have. It’s better if you could point out the people you were with who made it one of the best trips you have ever been on.This will be a moderate, 6.5 round trip, with minimal elevation gain hike to the Crystal Mill and to the town site of Crystal which is a running ghost town called The Crystal Town Site.
For those who would like to either caravan or carpool to Lizard Lake where we’ll begin our hike at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 1st, 2026 please meet us at the overflow parking area at Bogus Flats Campground at around 10:00 AM. We’ll be leaving Bogus Campground’s overflow at around 10:15 AM.
If you won't be meeting us at the campground here are the directions to Lizard Lake and the trailhead.I've know people to take a fishing pole and walk the banks of the Crystal and fish...you do need a license.
From Marble take Rd 3 to Lizard Lake, that's it!
Not only is the picturesque Crystal Mill is one of the most photographed sites in Colorado it is also the third leading photograph of a wooden structure in the country. The first being the Mormon Settlement in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the second being a small mission in San Antonio, Texas known as the ALAMO.
Its precarious perch on an outcropping of rock just above the Crystal River, framed by beautiful aspens and a backdrop of stunning mountains, gives it an undeniable visual appeal.
Though some misinformed people have dubbed it the “Dead Horse Mill”, that name is erroneous and was never historically used. Historically speaking, the Mill was known as the Sheep Mountain Power House, and was located on the Lost Horse Millsite. Today it is known as “The Crystal Mill” .After the hike we'll head back towards Bogan Flats Overflow Parking and stop at the SLOW GROOVIN
BBQ. Good stuff Maynerd!!!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTktSVOxKF4
Check out the video of an aerial view of what we’ll be seeing on the trail. I became spaced out listening to the music. If you can turn on other music that would be a good idea.
I’ll see you soon
Take of yourselves,
