The Gold Coast SecTalks September event is happening Tuesday, September 3rd, 2025, at COHORT Innovation Space, 16 Nexus Way, Southport. As usual, things will kick off at 6pm and end around 8pm.

In this session, Daniel Cornwell will share insights on implementing zero trust in OSI layer 2 and 3 for switches. Zero Trust is a security model that dictates nothing should be trusted by default. Implicit trust can be leveraged by threat actors to move laterally through a network. Today I will discuss a mindset shift towards assuming compromise and securing devices using the zero trust mindset.

Daniel is a Security Specialist with the Queensland Government, working with public sector entities on security information and event management (SIEM) engineering, incident response and threat hunting.
