# 0 - Emu Exploit - How to (not lose) DEFCON CTF

Last year, a CTF merger team “Friendly Maltese CItizens” formed with the goal of qualifying for DEFCON CTF. Emu Exploit was part of this merger and whilst we ultimately missed placement for the initial qualifiers, we document our experience from these qualifications to making it to the conference and (not losing) the finals. This journey covers the state of CTFs, DEFCON and preparation players take for a successful finals event, including lesser known topics including tooling and pineapple pizza.

torry2 (Torry) and q3st1on (Orlando) are students and CTF players from the team Emu Exploit, a competitive team ranking #1 in Australia since 2022. Founded 2021, the team is composed of both students and professionals with aims of promoting security and adjacent technical disciplines to anyone trying to break into the space through CTFs.
