This powerful film, MERCHANTS OF DOUBT, by director Robert Kenner, is inspired by the acclaimed book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway. It lays out how public relations con-men twist the truth, cast doubt on the facts, attack the scientific evidence, and often the very scientists themselves, to make the public think that dangerous & deadly things like tobacco, pesticides, fossil fuels, global warming, etc. are not harmful to us. The film discloses how the greedy & powerful, like the Koch brothers, employ a secretive group of charismatic, silver-tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change.
