About us

Hey! We're Emily and Dan - your group organizers.

Welcome to Secular Young Families of North Austin!

We're a community for secular families in the North Austin area with kids ranging from toddlers through 12th grade, looking to connect over parenting, playdates, and life outside religion. We're mainly hoping to connect with families who have some younger kids in the mix — if your family is all high schoolers, there may be less overlap here, but families spanning a range of ages are very welcome.

We personally have four kids ages 3-10. We left Christianity within the last few years. Deconstruction (or just growing up nonreligious) can leave a gap where community used to be, especially once you have kids and start fielding questions about holidays, grandparents, and "why don't we go to church."

This group is our attempt to build that community back, with people who get it.

We'll do park meetups, family-friendly events, and casual hangouts, along with space to talk through the parenting side of raising kids secular — how to handle extended family, what to say when the questions get hard, that kind of thing.

If the group sounds like a good fit for you, please drop a comment and let us know if you'd be interested in joining a prelimenary meetup/park date and what your kids age ranges are.

Looking forward to connecting with y'all and making some new friends soon!
