Himalayas - Year of the Fire Horse

Details
It’s not too early to begin thinking about travelling to the Mt. Everest area of the Himalayas for the Spring 2026 climbing and trekking season, April and May 2026 for 4 or 5 weeks. I have a tentative plan to go so I’m posting this on Meetup. I’m likely going to India also - a TOUGH travel destination. If you ever wanted to go this may be a good opportunity.
Very rough total expenses would be $5000 to $8000. Depends on flights, what kind of hotel you want to stay in – I stay in Peace Corps guest house type places (1 star, 0 star) when travelling solo.
#1 importance is conditioning. The Himalayas begin where other mountain ranges stop. Start conditioning now if you have any thoughts you might be able to pull off this trip. When you hike this summer go to the highest altitude convenient, like Flagstaff, Mammoth Lakes, Alta, Nederland, Crested Butte. Carry a full 2 or 3 liters of water to weight your pack. Take more, rather than less, difficult hikes. Push it! Do Mushroom Rock 3-4 times in a week. “Whip the body.” Paramahansa Yogananda
It may be possible to add-on an excursion at the front and end of your trek. What’s possible out of Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, is tiger/rhino/bird safaris; river rafting; trip to India (Varanasi) I’ll probably do this, maybe 3-4 days; fly to Lhasa then bicycle, motorcycle or bus back to Kathmandu; maybe Ladakh.
On the return trip – Thailand, Vietnam.
