Fay Canyon Trail

Details
Hello hikers,
Let's begin our 2025-2026 Senior hiking season with a hike on the Fay Canyon Trail on Monday, September 1st.
Fay Canyon is the perfect beginning hike for we seniors because it's short (about 2.25 miles in-out), is rated Easy (for those who want to start the hiking season with an easy stroll) and provides plenty of parking (September 1st is Labor Day so there will likely be many visitors in town). We seniors hike a little slower than some of the other groups so if you are expecting a cardio workout, this is not the hike for you.
The temperatures in Sedona are still pretty warm so we'll start promptly at 8:00 AM and should be back at the parking area before 10:00 AM. I don't plan on hiking to Fay Canyon Arch (shown in the photo above)
The trailhead parking area is located on Boynton Pass Road. To get there from the "Y," drive west toward Cottonwood on SR 89A about 3 miles. Turn right onto Dry Creek Road. Stay on Dry Creek Road to a stop sign (about 3 miles) then turn left onto Boynton Pass Road. Proceed about 1.6 miles to another stop sign. Turn left, continuing on Boynton Pass Road. Park at the first parking area on the left side, about 0.8 miles from the second stop sign. The trailhead is across the road from the west end of the parking area.
You'll need a Red Rock Pass or equivalent to park. There is a toilet at the parking area.
At the moment, there is a 30% chance of rain on Labor Day. If it becomes necessary to cancel the hike, I'll send an email via Meetup to the atendees late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.
Remember, you are responsible for your safety on the hike.
See you Labor Day!
