Doe Mountain Trail

Details
Hello hikers,
Monday's hike, September 15, 2025 will be the Doe Mountain Trail.
Earlier this year, the Forest Service and others are reported to have created a trail which circumvents the top of Doe Mountain. If you've hiked Doe before, you'll recall that once on top, you had to make your way around using social trails and the occassional bushwacking. Reportedly that's now changed and there is a defined trail around the top of Doe.
On Monday, September 15th, let's explore this new trail together. I should mention that I will be taking photos, writing descriptions and recording GPS data points because I need to update the Doe Mountain descriptions and maps in my various hiking guides. As a result the hike may be a little slower than usual. And I'm starting the hike a little early because there is no shade on top of Doe so we need to be finished before the temperature gets too warm.
The tralhead parking is located on Boynton Pass Road. From the "Y" roundabout, drive west toward Cottonwood on SR 89A about 3 miles. Turn right onto Dry Creek Road. Stay on Dry Creek Road to a stop sign (about 3 miles) then turn left onto Boynton Pass Road. Proceed about 1.6 miles to a stop sign. Turn left, continuing on Boynton Pass Road. The trailhead parking is the second one on the left side, about 1.8 miles from the stop sign. The trailhead is at the south side of the parking area. This parking area also serves the Bear Mountain Trail. There are toilets at the parking area and a Red Rock Pass or equivalent is required to park.
This moderate-rated hike has a cumulative ascent of about 525 feet and the trail up to the mesa is narrow and steep in some places. I suggest you bring plenty of water, a cooling cloth and hat because it's likely to be on the warm side when we are hiking around the top of Doe. You are responsible for your safety on the hike.
