Scorpion/Pyramid Loop
Details
Hello hikers. Monday's hike, December 22, 2025, will be the Scorpion/Pyramid Loop. It's an Easy to Moderate hike of some 2.3 miles with a cumulative ascent of about 390 feet. We last hiked this trail in October 2024.
We'll be hiking in a counterclockwise direction to maximize the views but there is an area with a rather steep descent this way.
We'll come to a social trail which leads to the top of the Pyramid after hiking about 1.3 miles. While I don't plan to hike to the top of the Pyramid that day, you are welcome to do so if you like. The hike up to the top of the Pyramid and return to the main trail will add 200 feet of elevation and 0.8 miles to your hike.
The trailhead parking is located at the intersection of the Upper Red Rock Loop Road and Chavez Ranch Road. From the "Y" roundabout, drive west on SR 89A about 4.25 miles then turn left onto the Upper Red Rock Loop Road. Sedona High School is on your right. Follow the Upper Red Rock Loop Road for 1.8 miles to the intersection of Chavez Ranch Road then park on the right side of the road ({1} on the map). There is room for about 12 vehicles here. You'll see the trailhead to the west from the parking area.
We'll begin the hike promptly at 8:15 AM. You are responsible for your safety on the hike. See you Monday.
