Chicken Point In-Out or Chicken Point/Submarine Rock Loop

Hello hikers,
On Monday hike, January 12, 2026 we will be hiking the Broken Arrow Trail to Chicken Point then a jeep road to Submarine Rock.
You'll have the option of making either a 3 mile in-out hike or a 4 mile loop hike. Either way you make the hike you'll see some unique rock formations and have some really nice red rock views.
Here's the plan.... We'll start promptly at 8:30 AM and proceed to the Devil's Dining Room ( waypoint {2} on the map), then on to Chicken Point {5} following the Broken Arrow Trail. For those who wish a shorter hike, you can return on the Broken Arrow Trail to the parking area for a 3 mile, 2 hour in-out hike.
The remaining hikers will follow a jeep road to Submarine Rock {4}. We'll take a short break at Submarine Rock before returning to the parking area to complete our 4 mile, 3 hour hike. Cumulative ascent for this hike is about 650 feet.
The parking area is at the end of Morgan Road. From the "Y" roundabout, drive south on SR 179 for 1.5 miles to the roundabout at Morgan Road. Take the third exit then proceed on Morgan Road. Drive about 0.6 mile to the trailhead parking on your left {1}. This parking area also serves the Marg’s Draw Trail. There is room for about 25 vehicles in the parking area.
NOTE: The last part of Morgan Road is a dirt road and is rather bumpy. A regular passenger car can traverse the road by driving slow.
FYI, the temperature when we begin the hike is projected to be about 32 degrees.
This is a senior-led hike so if you are expecting a cardio workout, this isn't the hike for you. You are responsible for your safety on the hike.
