NEW TRAIL: Del Sol Trail One Way
Details
Hello hikers,
Monday's hike, February 9, 2026 will be the new Del Sol Trail.
We'll be hiking the entire length of Del Sol one way from the Transept Trail parking area to the Turkey Creek parking area by employing a two vehicle hike concept. Here's how that will work....
We'll meet at the Transept Trail parking area at 8:15 AM. I'll ask for several volunteers to park their vehicle at the Turkey Creek parking area and a chase vehicle driver to bring the parked vehicle drivers back.
The volunteers and the chase vehicle driver will drive from the Transept parking area to the Turkey Creek parking area and leave two or three vehicles (depending on how many hikers we have) there. The chase vehicle will bring the drivers of those left vehicles back to Transept.
We'll begin the Del Sol Trail hike about 8:30 AM and hike to it's western end at the Turkey Creek Trail. Upon arriving at Turkey Creek, using the vehicles we left there, we'll drive back to the Transept parking area.
The Transept Trail parking area is located 2 miles out Verde Valley School Road. From the “Y” roundabout, drive south on SR 179 about 7 miles to the Jacks Canyon and Verde Valley School Road roundabout. Take the first exit onto Verde Valley School Road. Drive west 2 miles to the parking area on the left, just beyond the "Camping/Camp Fires Prohibited" sign.
The hike should be about 3.2 miles, mostly downhill. Based on some preliminary information, we'll have an ascent of about 260 feet and a descent of some 500 feet.
NOTE: I haven't hiked this trail before so I'll be making notes, taking photos and marking GPS waypoints as we go because the Del Sol Trail may be a good addition to my hiking books. As a result the hike may be a little slower than usual.
There are no toilets and a parking pass is not required for this hike. This is a senior-led hike so if you are looking for a cardio workout, this isn't the hike for you. You are responsible for your safety on the hike.
