About us

Self-Made Actor Lab™ is a creative community for actors who are ready to stop waiting for permission and start creating opportunities of their own.
Founded by NYC actress and award-winning filmmaker Sakinah Iman, Self-Made Actor Lab brings actors together to explore the intersection of acting, storytelling, filmmaking, personal truth, and career visibility.
After nearly two decades as a professional actress and more than a decade creating independent films, Sakinah discovered something that transformed her own career: sometimes the role that allows people to truly see what you can do is the role you create for yourself.
By turning her own experiences, perspective, spoken word, music, and talents into original films, Sakinah's work has earned 28 film festival awards, screened at over 70 film festivals worldwide, and been licensed and distributed on major television and streaming platforms, including Showtime, Paramount+, Hulu, Apple TV, and Prime Video.
Through live workshops, creative intensives, conversations, and community events, members will learn how to uncover the stories only they can tell, develop original monologues and short-film concepts, strengthen their on-camera storytelling, understand the fundamentals of independent filmmaking, and learn strategies for navigating film festivals and creating greater visibility for their work.
This community is especially for actors who have ever felt overlooked, typecast, underrepresented, creatively stuck, or tired of waiting for someone else to recognize what they bring to the table.
You don't have to wait for Hollywood to write the perfect role for you.
Your experiences are material. Your perspective has value. Your talents belong in the story.
And sometimes, the role that changes your career might be the one you create yourself.
Welcome to Self-Made Actor Lab™. It's time to choose yourself.
