What we’re about
This is primarily a Zoom meeting group designed for seniors. We seniors have a lifetime of experience and education to draw on. Many of us have been reading short stories, novels, screenplays, memoirs, and/or personal essays all our lives, and we have wished to write something ourselves. Now in our retirement is a great time to go for it. It's also our last chance to do so before the train leaves the station for good.
This is intended to be a friendly, mutually supportive group in which anyone, beginner to competent amateur, can learn or further develop the craft of writing. I find writing the most personally rewarding and insight-producing activity I know of. If you want something to keep your mind young and active, writing is it.
We'll be critiquing each other's work and discussing them online in a helpful and collegial manner. We'll all read a short work of fiction each month by a major author and devote one discussion to analyzing it. From my point of view, the short story is the best form to develop your skill in, because a short story can be the germ of a novel, a screenplay, a TV series, and of course the short story is a major literary form in itself.
Feel free to contact me if you have more questions. If we feel it would be more helpful to meet in person occasionally, we will leave that option open.
