What we're about

IoT-SensemakersAMS is a volunteer based community dedicated to connecting people and sharing knowledge, ideas & hands-on experience.

Everybody is welcome: Technical, non-technical or just interested. If you like to know more, be involved or are just curious: Just come to one of our meetups:

• 1th Wednesday: DIY hands-on (http://www.sensemakersams.org/about/lets-meet-up/projects/) in the Makerspace at OBA (https://www.oba.nl/), there are 3Dprinters, lasercutters, sensors arduino, RaspberryPi etc. We also learn by collaborating on projects that impact the city (waterquality, sound) with e.g. Marineterrein (https://www.marineterrein.nl/), Waag (http://waag.org) & SensingClues (https://sensingclues.org/)

• 3th Wednesday: Sharing knowledge, ideas & connecting people at CodamCollege (https://www.codam.nl/)

• Random: handson workshops, excursions or whatever comes up:-)

As we want to bring you interesting speakers, who can share their thoughts, experiences and/or wisdom, we would appreciate you tipping us off when you know or heard about someone!

Presentations from earlier meetups can be found on our website (https://www.sensemakersams.org/)

A national sensor registry, and the latest on synthetic media & deepfakes

Every 3th Wednesday of the month we have presentations, open mic & discussions about IoT-related subjects. This evening we have:

- Challenging ambition: a national sensor registry (Marc van Andel)
There is a growing number of sensors, cameras and measuring devices in the public space. Why are they hanging on the lamp post? What are they measuring? And by whom? Those questions are relevant to the citizens to be assured that no private and sensitive data are collected without their approvement or for their safety. But others also have an interest, like municipalities, sensor owners, researchers and data scientists.
Kadaster (the Dutch land registry) is a very innovative organization, working on spatial imaging, 3D representations off and in public space, the disclosure of geoinformation, digital twins. Facilitating others in their decision making, but also creating more transparency. In this context they are also collaborating on a national sensor registry with a few municipalities like Eindhoven and Amsterdam. The register provides insight into where sensors are located in the public space, what data they collect and who owns it. This project offers several challenges, like what is the definition of a sensor, who owns it, etc, etc. But the biggest challenge here is the introduction of a new national wide system with maximum flexibility to municipalities and future initiatives like yourselves and still maintaining a standard for data modelling and communication so a central publication of sensors is still possible and valuable. More info can be found here: https://kadaster-labs.github.io/sensrnet-home/ProductVision/
Marc van Andel, Solution Architect and Emerging Tech Researcher at Kadaster, will share insights on how these challenges were handled, demonstrate the MPV (Minimum Viable Product) and is open to feedback and new angles from the audience.

- Synthetic media; opportunities & threats
Experts believe that in a few years, 90% of the online content will be synthetic. What are the opportunities for organisations, and how about threats like deepfakes.
Manon den Dunnen will give an overview of the latest trends, threats and opportunities

Doors open online around 18.30 for networking. The Zoom-link will be shared the day before.
Presentations usually start at 19h & end around 20.30 with "open mic" when you can share your own story/event/question.

Online event

Unfortunately we still cannot meet offline, tinkering together is not compatible with 1,5m distance...:-(
This meeting will be online via Skype, join if you're working on a project or trying to learn Arduino etc. The idea is that we'll be tinkering at home but not alone, as you can chat and ask questions to other people experimenting at their home!

Just dm your Skypename to Manon and she'll add you to the monthly call.
