I was planning to visit his exhibition in L.A., but thankfully he came to Korea for an exhibition. Don't miss the opportunity to experience a renowned artist firsthand. He was born to a single mother who ran a beauty shop. Hair roller papers were his childhood toys—and they eventually became one of his art materials. Excluded from the established art world, he now works for less-educated people in his community through his artwork and art community. His abstract work is called sociopolitical—let's dive into his abstract world.

Art on 60 Minutes: Mark Bradford

“Amorepacific Museum of Art is pleased to announce Mark Bradford: Keep Walking, the first solo exhibition of the internationally-acclaimed American artist Mark Bradford in South Korea. Born in Los Angeles in 1961, Bradford is celebrated for his monumental abstract paintings. These creations are crafted from everyday materials and tools from the aisles of the hardware store and are deeply infused with the artist’s personal experiences in Los Angeles and the socio-political narratives of marginalized communities.

This exhibition marks the inaugural introduction of Mark Bradford’s artistic practice to a Korean audience and will showcase around 40 works spanning various media, including painting, sculpture, installation, and video works. Much of Bradford’s abstract compositions are created using materials like posters and newspaper clippings found near his Los Angeles studio, resulting in expansive paintings that transform urban detritus into palimpsests. These works poignantly reflect the socio-political challenges faced by vulnerable populations.”
