[Exhibition] Whanki, Landscapes of the Mind
Details
Kim Whanki is one of Korea's most renowned abstract painters. He lived through Japanese colonial rule and the Korean War, and traveled to Paris and New York on his artistic journey. Although he spent time in the world's major art centers, he longed for his home country. Eventually, he developed his own distinctive style that sets his work apart from other abstract paintings.
The myriad reflections he recorded in his diaries became the seedbed of a profound creative exploration that traversed figuration and abstraction, culminating in the “Landscapes of the Mind”. This exhibition highlights Kim Whanki’s abstract paintings alongside his personal writings and reflections.
Take your time with his poetic letter drawings—the architecture is also renowned for its contemplative atmosphere. This is the exhibition's final day. A docent-led tour begins at 3PM. If you understand Korean, it's highly recommended.
