2025년, PyLadies Seoul의 월간 북클럽을 시작합니다!

월간 북클럽이란 매 달 한 권의 책을 읽고 첫번째 수요일 저녁에 온라인에서 모여 감상을 나누는 모임입니다.
첫 번째 책은 실리콘밸리에서 개발자로서 10년 이상의 남다른 경력을 쌓아오신 곽세영 작가님의 <여기 오면 다 잘될 줄 알았지>입니다.

책 소개: 우리는 실리콘밸리를 바라볼 때 몇몇 쇼맨십 가득한 CEO들의 언행에만 주로 주목하고, 언론이나 매체도 성공한 스타트업의 사업 아이템이나 리더십만을 분석하는 경우가 대부분이다. 실리콘밸리 기업 역시 대다수를 이루는 구성원은 일반 직원들이다. 이들이 무엇을 생각하고 어떻게 살아가는지 알지 못한다면, 실리콘밸리를 제대로 안다고 자신 있게 말할 수 있을까? 이 책은 한국에서 태어나 자란 저자가 오랫동안 해외에서 생활하다 서른 중반에 실리콘밸리로 건너가 개발자로 취업하여 겪은 생생한 이야기를 담고 있다. 재택근무, 자율 회의, 연봉 협상, 정리 해고 등 10년 차 개발자가 들려주는 실리콘밸리의 진짜 모습은 과연 무엇일까? 이제부터 지금까지 아무도 몰랐던 실리콘밸리 문화를 이 책을 통해 만나 보자. Join PyLadies Seoul's Monthly Book Club in 2025! 📚
What's a Monthly Book Club? We gather online on the first Wednesday evening of each month to share our thoughts about a selected book we've been reading together.
For our first book, we'll be reading "I Thought Everything Would Be Fine Once I Got Here" by Se-young Kwak, a seasoned developer with over 10 years of unique experience in Silicon Valley.

About the book: When we look at Silicon Valley, we often focus only on the theatrical behaviors of certain CEOs, and the media typically analyzes just the business models or leadership of successful startups. However, like any workplace, Silicon Valley companies are primarily made up of regular employees. How can we truly understand Silicon Valley without knowing what these employees think and how they live? This book shares the vivid experiences of the author, who was born and raised in Korea, lived abroad for many years, and then moved to Silicon Valley as a developer in her mid-thirties. What's the real Silicon Valley like from the perspective of a 10-year veteran developer, from remote work and flexible meetings to salary negotiations and layoffs?
