About Seoul Saturday Brunch Discussion Group
[Update 08/24]
-
Due to changes in the Meetup subscription fee structure, our event will now require an Admission Fee of 2,000 KRW per Discussion based on this logic:
[200,000 KRW/year / 20 Discussions = 10,000 KRW per Discussion.
10,000 KRW / 5 Members (average) = 2,000 KRW per member per Discussion] -
New Members must be approved, have a photo profile, and answer two questions in order to join the group.
-
Our group meets on Saturday every two weeks for a casual but focused discussion over coffee and snacks. It is place to practice English and share thoughts on a particular topic or issue from multiple perspectives. The host provides a number of articles and questions to review and guide the discussion.
-
Members are welcome and encouraged to suggest topics and lead discussions - which includes researching and suggesting articles for the others to read. All levels of English and contributions are welcome!

Question List
Technical and functional questions- What are the fundamental differences between generative AI and older forms of AI for question-answering? How do generative AI's capabilities for creating novel responses contrast with the more rigid, rule-based systems of the past?
- What are the key factors that influence the quality of a generated answer? Discuss the roles of training data, prompt engineering, and the underlying model architecture.
- When does generative AI struggle to provide accurate answers? Discuss the limitations surrounding subjective questions, real-time events, and queries requiring deep, personal understanding.
Artistic and creative questions
- Is an AI-generated image "art"? What criteria are required for an image to be considered art?
- How does the use of AI image generators affect human creativity? Does it enable new forms of expression or devalue traditional artistic skills?
- Can AI tools act as creative collaborators for human artists?
User and application-focused questions
- In which industries are generative AI-powered question-answering systems most valuable? What use cases hold the most promise, and why?
- How can users effectively formulate prompts to get the most accurate and useful answers from a generative AI? What are the skills needed for effective "prompt engineering"?
- How can we measure the real-world value of a generative AI question-answering system? What metrics beyond accuracy, such as user satisfaction or task completion rates, should be considered?
Ethical and societal questions
- How does the use of generative AI in question-answering affect critical thinking skills? Is there a risk that users will rely too heavily on AI-generated responses instead of engaging in their own problem-solving?
- What are the most significant ethical issues associated with using generative AI for question-answering? Consider problems like bias, data privacy, and the potential for the AI to cause harm.
- How does generative AI impact how we define and value "original thought"? If an AI can generate a coherent essay or research summary, what does that mean for human creativity and innovation?
- What ethical restrictions should be placed on AI image generation? For example, should there be limits on generating fake images of real people or creating deepfakes?
- What kinds of content should AI image generators be forbidden from producing? Who should decide on these restrictions?
- How can we prevent AI-generated images from being used to spread misinformation or create false historical narratives?
