# SEPA Hiking & Adventure Club

Managed by Joey De - Distinct from other regional SEPA clubs.

SEPA Hiking & Adventure Club is a private hiking and outdoor adventure community based in Southeastern Pennsylvania, with hikes, training, and outdoor activities that also extend into surrounding regions.

This group has a long history of hiking, exploring, and helping members connect outdoors. Our goal is to carry that tradition forward while continuing to improve event clarity, safety standards, communication, and coordination.

While the group may continue to evolve over time, hiking, outdoor exploration, and community remain at the heart of SEPA.

## Safety & Personal Responsibility

Outdoor activities involve inherent risks.
By joining this group or participating in any event, you acknowledge that you are responsible for your own safety, readiness, physical condition, transportation, hydration, nutrition, medical needs, equipment, and personal decisions while participating.

Organizers and hosts work to provide planning, coordination, and information, but every member is responsible for deciding whether a particular activity is appropriate for their own experience and abilities.

Please arrive prepared for the hike or activity you choose to attend.

## Event Standards

Event descriptions may include:
🥾 Distance or estimated time on trail
⛰️ Terrain and trail conditions
📍 Meetup location or general area
🕒 Start time and estimated finish
🌦️ Weather considerations
🟢🟡🔴⚫ Difficulty classification
🚗 Parking, travel, or carpool information
🎒 Recommended gear
🧭 Route, navigation, or pacing information
⚠️ Safety, hazard, or readiness information
🏕️ Activity type (hike, walk, training session, overnight, skills class, social outing, or adventure)

Members are encouraged to read the complete event description before deciding whether to participate.

Difficulty is determined by more than pace alone. Distance, terrain, elevation, footing, weather, exposure, navigation, trail conditions, and overall group readiness all contribute to the rating.
Event details, trail conditions, timing, logistics, and routes may change due to weather, permits, safety considerations, trail conditions, organizer availability, or member readiness.

## Group Culture

This club exists for hiking, outdoor adventure, learning, and respectful connection.

We welcome hikers of different experience levels. Respect, patience, good communication, and looking out for one another help everyone enjoy the trail.

We ask members to respect:
• Fellow members
• Organizers and event hosts
• Trail rules and land managers
• Wildlife and natural resources
• Leave No Trace principles

We do not permit:
• Alcohol or substance use during club hikes or activities
• Harassment or unsafe behavior
• Disruptive conduct
• Pressure to exceed personal ability
• Repeated ghosting after committing to coordinated plans

We hike with preparation, respect, common sense, and care for one another.

## Organizer & Host Structure

Our organizer team may include organizers, assistant organizers, department leads, scheduling support, event hosts, and co-hosts.

Each role supports a different part of club operations, including:
• Event planning
• Scheduling
• Member communication
• Verification and member support
• Safety standards
• Training resources
• Trip coordination

Hosts, co-hosts, and department staff may coordinate with the Lead Organizer before posting or leading moderate, advanced, remote, overnight, carpool-based, or higher-planning events to help maintain consistent safety and communication standards.

## Participation Notes

Some outings remain simple Meetup-style events.

Others—particularly carpools, remote destinations, advanced terrain, overnight trips, training sessions, or co-hosted events—may involve additional readiness review, direct communication, trip coordination, or pre-event planning.

We shape many activities around the members who participate rather than expecting members to fit into a fixed calendar.

This approach helps protect the group, the trail, and everyone taking part.

## Final Note

SEPA has a long history, and many members have helped shape this community over the years.

We appreciate that history while continuing to build a club focused on hiking, outdoor adventure, safety, organization, and welcoming new members into the next chapter.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Welcome to SEPA Hiking & Adventure Club.
