Talks

šŸŽ¤ Reaching net zero: Tech is where itā€™s at! - Rita Cervetto (Kaluza)

In service mapping terms, Rita could not operate further ā€œbackstageā€. Sheā€™s a service designer at Kaluza, a B2B2C energy software company. The technology being built here has millions of users, the potential of affecting energy providers and consumers and ultimately the power to drive net zero globally. No biggie.

This talk will bring stories and examples of the earliest and latest service design frameworks at Kaluza - the good ones and the ones we broke along the way.

šŸ—£ About the speaker
Rita Cervetto, a Service Designer at Kaluza, originally from Lima, Peru. Now in Bristol, she leverages learnings from Hyper Island (Manchester), Isobar (Dubai), and Doubleyou (Barcelona) among other design-centric organisations.

At Kaluza, she utilises service design to develop energy software, fostering a sustainable shift to net zero by empowering energy firms and their customers. Passionate about transformative design, Rita embraces the challenges of working in tech, building a team, and always re-designing her toolkit.

šŸŽ¤ How might we design and deliver greener services? - Ned Gartside (Defra)

Thereā€™s a climate crisis, the legislative landscape around mandatory reporting is changing fast and organisations big and small are setting all kinds of targets for reducing carbon footprint. How can we design and deliver services that fit with this agenda and serve to reduce environmental impacts?

The talk will divide into 2 parts:

  1. What are the typical environmental impact hotspots of a (digital) service?
  2. What do we need to start delivering greener services on our projects? How might we approach measurement?

šŸ—£ About the speaker
Ned is a service designer at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Half his time he works on 'waste trackingā€™, a project to create a new digital system to track waste and resources through the UK and empower the move to a more circular economy. The other half he works on sustainable design, and has led the development of a set of principles for the design and delivery of greener services. He used to work in agencies and startups.

Gets quite excited about systems thinking, sustainability in general and running up and down hills.
