What we’re about
SEVAS, the Southeast Volusia Audubon Society, is one of three Audubon groups in Volusia County, FL. We are an active, inclusive Audubon Chapter and we welcome all. Our monthly meetings are held Oct - Apr at the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach but our birding trips take us all over the county and beyond.
Want to learn more about native plants? We have demonstration gardens to visit and tend. Also, come view our Purple Martin colony at the Marine Discovery Center!

Tuesday Morning Bird Walk Port Orange Causeway Park

Tuesday Morning Bird Walks are open to ALL. Come learn and discover our local birds; beginners are encouraged. Let's find the oystercatchers and more! It'll be low tide, so shorebirds should be present. Caspian and Sandwich Terns year-round, possible Peregrine Falcons, Great Black-backed Gulls and a Common Loon?
The Critical Wildlife Area is a nesting site for up to 400 pairs of Brown Pelicans, White Ibises and a few pairs of American Oystercatchers. Occasionally, Reddish Egrets, night-herons, Magnificent Frigatebirds and Roseate Spoonbills have been spotted. The fishing pier is a good vantage point over the water.

Oct - April, Experienced SEVAS members lead these walks for both beginning and avid birders. The walks are free and open to the public. Each site offers different birds and a chance to visit a variety of natural areas. Meet at 8am and plan to spend about two hours.Bring optics, water, bug spray, snacks, etc, and dress for the weather.

Saving the Monarch Kingdom with David and Susan Bruce
7pm at the Marine Discovery CenterWINGS UP!
David and Susan Bruce are Monarch Stewards, and work with the New Smyrna Beach Monarch Certification Program, as well as other public outreach efforts.They will discuss their joy and experience with the spectacular migration of monarch butterflies from Canada to Central Mexico and back, as well as what's behind the 80% population decline of these insects. Discover what they need, and how we can assist this endangered pollinator locally during its journey.
Damien Rockwood with Asclepias Acres Nursery will also be on hand with live native plants for sale. Come see what can attract more pollinators to your garden!
