ALL are welcome! Join us for a lovely afternoon out. We’ll bird the boardwalk and dunes, then wind back along the shore, and tally our list. Smyrna Dunes offers pristine coastal dunes and panoramic views of Ponce Inlet and lighthouse, the estuary, and the ocean. We should get good looks at gulls, terns and shorebirds. Passerines are possible in the hammocks, and we may see gopher tortoises along the boardwalk.
Up to twenty species of shorebirds are possible, including American Oystercatchers, Piping and Wilson’s Plovers, Purple Sandpipers and Red Knots. Brown and American White Pelicans, Black Skimmers, Common Loons, cormorants and numerous species of gulls and terns are found here. Bait fish activity at the inlet’s mouth attracts sea birds, especially Northern Gannets.
>>nb: There is a Volusia County park entrance fee or pass required (unless you are on a bike). You can also purchase permits in person at one of the offices, such as the New Smyrna Beach office open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 302 N. Causeway, NSB

Third Thursday of each month. SEVAS B&B walks provide a happy end-of-day birding jaunt and a social at a local pub or restaurant. We bird different sites, and enjoy time to relax, laugh, and connect. Adult beverages optional.
Bring binoculars, a hat, water, bug spray, etc, and dress for the weather.
