Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge
2045 Mud Lake Road, DeLeon Springs, 32130
Free and open to the public.
Meet for car-pooling at at 715am, southwest corner of the Walmart parking lot, 3155 State Rd 44, New Smyrna Beach.
Or, meet there at 815am; pass the Visitor Center on Mud Lake Road and continue straight through the 4-way intersection on the narrow unpaved road. Park in the lot at the end of the road.
With over 20K acres, 230 species of birds have been recorded here. We will explore the multi-use dike trails around a series of pools looking and listening for Limpkins, Sandhill Cranes and King Rails; American Bitterns occur in winter and flocks of Glossy Ibis are often present. A viewing tower constructed by West Volusia Audubon is located at the intersection of the three pools.
Back to NSB around 1pm.
Chip Franke will lead. Dress for the weather and bring water, optics, bug spray, sun screen, snacks.
