Canaveral National Park: Turtle Mound Trail

NOTE: previous announcement said Castle Windy, but that parking lot is closed. Trip is to Turtle Mound!

Turtle Mound has been a navigational aid for generations. It is an oyster shell midden rising 35 feet above sea level, and an archeological site dating back to 800AD. The boardwalk here is generally considered an easy route, with stunning views of Mosquito Lagoon and the Atlantic. Bug spray might be helpful.

**An entrance fee or Golden Eagle pass or similar is required to enter the National Seashore so carpool with friends if you can.

Oct - April, Experienced SEVAS members lead these walks every month, on the second and fourth Tuesday, for both beginning and avid birders. The walks are free and open to the public. Each site offers different birds and a chance to visit a variety of natural areas. Meet at 8am and plan to spend about two hours.

Park at the trailhead, just past the Visitors Center about .5 mi from park entrance. Bring binoculars, water, bug spray, snacks, etc, and dress for the weather.
