Hands On Photoelasticity
Details
Any lens should do - you will need a Polarizing Filter for this event.
We will be shooting with a Light Pad and polarizing film. If you have a light pad please bring it. The more stations we have the better. We have 6 sheets of the Polarizing Film.
Photoelasticity photography is a creative technique that uses polarized light to visualize stress patterns in transparent objects, typically clear plastic. By placing a polarizing filter behind a clear plastic item and another in front of the camera lens, a photographer can capture colorful, rainbow-like patterns that reveal areas of stress and strain within the material. The resulting images are often abstract and show how forces are distributed, with areas of higher stress appearing as brighter colors or denser bands.
If you have clear plastic items that you want to photograph please feel free to bring them along.
Here is a great video showing you how to do this with a laptop screen and a polarizing filter...
