Announcing a new Meetup for Sewing with Style!

What: Knock Off a Garment a.k.a. Copy Your Clothing

When: Saturday, February 20,[masked]:00 PM

Price: $10.00 per person

The Common Thread
701-E South Lamar Blvd
Austin, TX 78704

Join us as we learn to Knock Off our favorite garments in a hands-on workshop Saturday, February 20th from 6pm to 8:30pm. Knock Off Master, Andy Nguyen, will teach the David Page Coffin method using foam core board, pins and paper. To participate:

1. Please sign up and pay.

2. Watch these two videos beforehand:

"David Page Coffin Shirt Making Lesson, Threadbanger" "Make a pattern from your favorite shirt."
4 mins 48 secs
[NOTE: there is a glitch w/ this video, at least for me, such
that it doesn't start playing by itself. I had to move the
"slider" past the start, to about 0:05, before it would play.]

"Make a pattern from your favorite pants"
7 mins 20 secs

3. Bring to the session:

a. Your favorite (simple) garment that you would like to resurrect.
Pick a garment with relatively few seams and darts and fewer pieces,
such as a skirt, a plain blouse or jacket, etc. Don't worry about
details on the garment such as pockets as they don't add any
complexity to the pattern.

Also, try to select a smaller garment (blouse, midi/mini skirt) as
opposed to a larger one (coat, cloak, maxi skirt) because space is
limited and the supplied foam core board won't accommodate a large
pattern piece.

b. A pen and a long straight edge, 2-feet plus (ruler etc.).

We supply all the materials you need: foam core board, Pattern Ease
pattern "paper", pins, etc.

Andy will randomly choose one garment from the crowd and demonstrate the
David Page Coffin method for all to view. Then he and his chaotic assistant,
Carlota Garcia, will be on hand to actively help (if needed) as you
apply the method with the materials provided. Expect to walk away from
the session intimately acquainted (if not completely comfortable) with
the method -- enough to continue at home.

This session will be hosted by the Common Thread, which can accommodate a
maximum of six people. Sign up soon!
