Distributed Tracing with OpenTracing: What, Why and How? Speakers: 1) Bahubali (Bill) Shetti @shetti - Director of Developer Advocacy for VMware Cloud Services 2) Shri Upadhye @iShrivatsa - Cloud Advocate at VMWare focused on Cloud Security and Cloud Native applications. Schedule: 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm - Guest check-in and networking (drinks & appetizers) 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Presentation w/Demo 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm - More Networking Abstract: As microservices architecture becomes the default choice for greenfield applications, more and more are deploying container application with K8S and specifically on managed services like Azure's AKS. Beyond the myriad of deployment options, the more complex part of applications in K8S are: 1) properly monitoring; 2) collecting logs; and 3) analyzing application traces. These are the key tenants of observability. In particular, tracing is complex because its not as simple as adding an agent but requires instrumentation in the application. In this talk, you will learn: 1. What distributed tracing is? 2. The different options with respect to tracing (opentracing, jaeger, zipkin, etc) 3. How to implement opentracing with jaeger in a polyglot containerized application. (in particular Go, NodeJS, Python & Redis) 4. How to visualize and analyze this using the jaeger UI, Wavefront by VMware, Azure Monitor. 5. The future with opentelemetry About the speakers: 1) Bahubali (Bill) Shetti @shetti - Director of Public Cloud Solutions for VMware Cloud Services .
